Powerball glitch that led to $2B jackpot drawing delay revealed

Lottery officials disclosed this week that a technical glitch that was affecting the process of verification 

in Minnesota resulted in a delay during last week's record-breaking $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot draw 

The original date was set as a Monday night event, however, the draw was delayed for several hours from Monday night until Tuesday morning as officials dealt with the issue 

"After unprecedented lottery interest, Minnesota's sales verification system caused a processing delay," the announcement posted on the Minnesota Lottery website reads 

"The delay was needed to ensure that the Powerball drawing was conducted in a safe and accurate manner 

There was never a moment when the integrity of the process was questioned 

It is believed that the Minnesota Lottery system relies on the two-step verification process, which involves a vendor printing and recording
