After purchasing his first-ever Powerball ticket, a Virginia man claimed he had peer pressure to be grateful for -- and he won $150,000 in the process.

Danny Johnson of Hampton said that he was skeptical of lottery games and would tell friends that they were a waste.

Johnson stated that a friend had urged him to purchase a Powerball ticket after the jackpot hit historic levels in November. Johnson finally caved and purchased a ticket from the lottery's website for the Nov. 5, drawing.

Johnson said that Johnson looked at the winning numbers, and said, "Hey, I've got some of those," Johnson remembered. "I had no idea how much I'd won because I don't play."

The ticket of the first player matched four numbers and the Powerball, and he won $50,000. This was due to his selecting the Power Play option.

Johnson stated that he does not have any immediate plans to use his winnings. However, he is thinking about a surprise gift for the friend that pushed him to buy his ticket
