Japan scored two shocks over European opponents during the World Cup group stage, and is now one step closer to another Round of 16.

Daizen Maeda scored Japan the lead with a goal at the end of the 43rd minute in Monday's game in the match against Croatia

Japan made three passes on an angle kick before putting it in the box. The ball was spotted by Maeda on the right-hand side of the goal

Maeda scored the goal. Celtic forward then smashed an effort with his left foot over Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic to score the match's first goal.

Maeda will make his debut World Cup appearance after joining the Japanese national team in the year 2019

He had only one international goal during his career before Monday's strike.

Japan defeated Germany in the final and Spain in the process to winning the top place in Group E but it's not an effective first-half squad
