The $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot was finally awarded to the winner in the early hours of Tuesday following technical issues prevented the drawing, which was set to be held on Monday.

The record-breaking prize was the fifth time in the last five years that a jackpot in a lottery is over the billion-dollar threshold and the latest was an unofficial new record for the world.

The jackpot was growing for more than three years. The chances of winning were about one out of 292.2 million, as per Powerball

Lottery winners can choose to receive their winnings as an annuity -- which has the option of payments for 30 years or more, the more well-known option of a lump sum payout with a lesser amount.

(That's the one "Shark Tank" star Kevin O'Leary says you should select.) The pre-tax lump sum payout for Tuesday's winner is $997.6 million

The last Powerball jackpot winner was winning the $206.9 million draw on August 3 -which is not bad at all however

it pales when compared to the prize which surpassed records previously set by the U.S. jackpot set in January 2016
